Buzz’s AI-powered features, BusyBee, are designed to support teaching, learning, and productivity in ways that are safe, transparent, and responsible. This document describes the principles that guide how AI is used in Buzz and the safeguards in place to protect users.

Our principles for using AI in Buzz

AI Should Support Learners and Educators, Not Replace Them
AI in Buzz is intended to assist understanding, exploration, and productivity. It is not intended to replace independent thinking, instructional judgment, or authentic student work.

Privacy Comes First
User data belongs to the school, organization, and its learners. AI interactions in Buzz are handled with strong protections to promote privacy, security, and appropriate access.

Safety Is Non-Negotiable
We prioritize safeguards that reduce the risk of harmful, inappropriate, or unsafe AI outputs, with a focus on appropriate educational usage.

Transparency and Responsibility Matter
AI-generated information may be incomplete or incorrect. Users should always apply critical thinking and verify important information with educators, administrators, or trusted sources.

Local Control Is Essential
Schools and organizations remain in control of which AI tools are used within their learning environments and are encouraged to establish clear local policies for instructional use.

How AI Is Used in Buzz

Buzz tools and features use foundation models (including large language models) to assist with instructional support, content understanding, and productivity tasks.

  • AI interactions in Buzz are not used to train or improve the underlying foundation models.
  • AI conversations are temporarily stored in Buzz as part of normal learning records and may be reviewed by authorized school and organization personnel.
  • Users should avoid entering personal, sensitive, or confidential information into AI tools.

Safety Measures

  • Foundation models used by Buzz include built-in safety mechanisms designed to reduce harmful or inappropriate outputs.
  • Buzz supplements these safeguards with additional monitoring and automated notifications to promote safe and appropriate use.
  • If activity violates safety guidelines or school or organization policies, access to an AI tool may be limited or blocked.

Shared Responsibility

Responsible use of AI in Buzz is a shared effort between Buzz and the schools and organizations that use it. Buzz provides AI tools with built-in safeguards, transparency, and controls, while schools and organizations are responsible for governing how those tools are used in their learning environments.

Organizations using Buzz AI features are responsible for:

  • Establishing and enforcing local AI use policies.
  • Monitoring AI activity and responding to notifications or misuse.
  • Providing instructional and pedagogical oversight.
  • Communicating expectations for appropriate AI use to students and staff.

Together, these roles support safe, secure, and responsible use of AI in education.

Our AI Security and Infrastructure Partners

To deliver AI capabilities responsibly and at scale, Buzz uses Amazon Bedrock, a managed service from Amazon Web Services (AWS) designed with enterprise-grade security and privacy protections.

When using AI features powered through Amazon Bedrock:

  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Data remains under customer control and is not used to train public AI models
  • Access is restricted through identity and access management
  • AWS adheres to well-established security and compliance standards

Additional details on AWS security and privacy practices are available directly from Amazon:

We also work with trusted AI providers available through Bedrock, including Anthropic, whose models are designed with a strong emphasis on safety, transparency, and responsible deployment. Anthropic publicly shares how their models are evaluated and governed as part of their commitment to responsible AI.

Together, these principles, safeguards, and partnerships allow Buzz to offer AI features that are powerful, practical, and aligned with the expectations of schools, organizations, educators, students, and families.
