BusyBee Chats are a Buzz Add-on

If you are interested in trying BusyBee Chats, reach out to your account manager or school administrator.

Chat characters are predefined profiles--names, character images, and descriptions--that can be created for a course and assigned to a BusyBee Chat activity.

When characters are added to an activity, BusyBee assumes the character during the conversation, drawing on the personality, resume, and life experience that are included in the character description.

To create characters, open Course settings:

  1. On the Chat characters card, click Add character.
  1. Provide the Character name (this can't be changed later). Teachers use the name to find the character when adding it to a Chat activity and students use it to select characters for the activity.
  2. Select the Avatar you want displayed during the Chat. If you don't select one, Buzz uses the BusyBee avatar.
  3. Provide a Description, defining the character's background, personality, resume, life experience etc. BusyBee uses this to assume the character in the conversation. If you are creating a character of a well-known person (e.g., Elizabeth Cady Stanton, George Washington), you can leave this blank and BusyBee uses what is generally known about them.
  4. Save.

Characters can be shared across courses

Characters can be shared across courses in multiple ways:

  • Copying courses
    • When you make a Derivative course copy, Characters are copied into that course and changes made to the Base course are reflected there.
    • When you make a Static course copy, Characters are copied into that course but changes made to the Base course aren't reflected.
  • Course templates: Characters can be imported into a courses using Course templates.
  • Library
    • When you Link an activity using the Library, the Characters in that activity are usable to where you've linked it, but not editable in the new course.
    • When you Copy an activity using the Library, the Characters in that activity are copied and pasted into Course settings in the new course and are editable there.
