Dawn’s updated user experience is designed to make learning and administration feel simpler, clearer, and more connected no matter how you use the platform.

If you’ve used Dawn before, the tools and capabilities you rely on are still here. What’s changed is how they’re organized and presented, making it easier to find what you need and stay focused on the task at hand.

New navigation

The most noticeable update is the move away from text-heavy menus and crowded toolbars. Dawn now uses a clean, modern layout that emphasizes clarity and efficiency across all experiences: Administration, Authoring, Coaching, and Learning

The goal is simple: spend less time searching for tools and more time using them.

Persistent vertical navigation bar

Dawn now uses a vertical navigation bar on the left side of the screen that:

  • Replaces the previous top navigation
  • Stays visible as you move through the platform
  • Clearly separates major areas of Learning, Coaching, and Configuration (administration and authoring)

This same structure applies everywhere, giving you:

  • Fewer clicks to switch contexts
  • More screen space for content, lists, and reports
  • Easier orientation when moving between tasks

Card-based dashboard

Instead of listing text links, Dawn now uses card-based dashboards to organize tools and actions.

Cards represent major tools, include short descriptions, and surface high-level status counts. Experienced users can move faster with fewer clicks, while new users can understand available options at a glance.

Breadcrumbs in the toolbar

In the toolbar, Dawn now displays breadcrumbs to help you stay oriented as you navigate deeper into the platform.

Breadcrumbs are clickable, allowing you to quickly move back to a higher-level page without using the browser back button or reopening menus.

Contextual action menus

On list-based screens like Enrollments or Groups, Dawn now uses contextual action menus. When you select one or more items, the menu appears with the actions available for that selection—such as Edit, Delete, or Add to group.

This reduces visual clutter while surfacing the right actions at the right time, based on what you’ve selected and your permissions.

What hasn’t changed

While the interface looks different, Dawn’s core functionality remains the same:

  • Existing roles and permissions still apply
  • Content, learners, settings, and data are preserved
  • Common workflows work the same way, just in a new layout

Tips for adjusting quickly to Dawn 2.0

  • Start with the left-hand navigation to understand how areas are grouped
  • Look for cards when entering a new workspace—they act as visual signposts
  • Use page titles and icons to orient yourself

Give yourself a short adjustment period; most users find tasks take fewer clicks once they’re familiar with the layout

Note: The ability to schedule live events and one-on-one coaching sessions is not currently available in Dawn 2.0. These features remain available in the legacy Dawn experience.
