In order to create create a Google file Annotation template, your domain needs to be integrated with Google Workspace: How do I integrate Google Workspace to enable Google Drive collaboration?

To set up a Google file as an Annotation template, you first have to create the activity template as a Google Drive document (you can use any kind, but Docs and Slides are probably most common).

Then, open Buzz's Editor:

  1. Add an Assignment activity to your course.
  2. In the Settings tab > Gradebook and submission card, check the This activity is gradable box.
  3. In the Allowed submission types dropdown menu, select Student annotation.
  4. Under Annotation template to use, click Choose Google file and select the template you created.

Note: Check the Allow multiple attachments to allow students to upload more than one template attachment or to allow students to upload more than one Submission type if you have selected more than one.

  1. Once selected, you can Preview, Copy, or Remove the template.
  2. Add content and configure your activity.

When students open the activity, they click the + Google file annotation button.

The template is copied and added to the student's Attachments. The student can then open it to make their edits and save their version to the submission. When submitted, a PDF snapshot is created and saved in the student activity history.
