During the summer of 2017, we released a new Buzz UI, giving you the same features and functionality with a cleaner, simpler user experience!

Until all users have switched to the new UI, our Help Center articles will include information for both.

Click the header below that aligns with the Buzz UI version you are using (Old UI or New UI); if you don't know which version you are using, review the differences and/or contact your system admin or Agilix account manager.

Old UI

Create pass/fail, plus/minus, straight letter grade, and other grade scales to use for course and objective scoring.

Create and edit grade scales

To create your own grade scale or edit existing scales:

  1. Open the Editor using the Main Menu.
  2. Click Settings in the toolbar.
  3. In the Gradebook tab under Grade Scales, select the scale you want to edit and click the pencil (edit) icon, or click Add grade scale.
  4. With the grade scale editor, you are asked to:
    • Name the grade scale.
    • Choose the Type of scoring you want to use (Points, Percent (%), Percentile (class rank), or Distribution).
    • Name each possible grade (P and F in the example) and define the minimum score a student must earn to receive each (70 for P in example). Click the garbage can (delete) icon next to a row to remove it and click Add bracket to create additional rows.
  5. Click OK to save and your new or edited grade scale appears in the Course grade scale and Objective grade scale dropdown menus.

I am trying to figure out where (as domain level admin), I can add the grade scale we use for our High School so teachers building courses can 'pick' from that in their list.  Can you point me to this info?  I've been searching help articles and looked in the Buzz Admin course developed by Niki K and not finding anything. Is this possible to do so teachers don't all individually have to edit their grade scales?

Hey Chad:

Currently, there actually is not a way to create a "domain level" grade scale. Grade scales are created at the course-level. However, you can create a course template where you can define all of the settings (e.g., grade scales) that you would like used by your teachers. Teachers/admins then either select the course template when creating a new course or you can import the grade scale into existing courses. Admins can do this for multiple courses, too, through the Bulk Update feature.

Marc Collins

I followed your steps, but do not see the ability to import a grade scale via the Bulk Update feature.

Hello Marc,

To carry over the grade scale it requires a template course to be defined in the Domain Settings. Information on how to do so is found in the article: How do I add course templates to my domain?

Once a template course is defined there will be another tab available in the course Bulk Update feature to select what template settings you wish to import.

Marc Collins

Thank you Brad -

It is important to remember to refresh the screen to get the "Template" tab to show on the bulk edit page... I think this is what I didn't do. This tool is going to be extremely helpful to us at HTA.

Aloha

Greetings!

I currently cannot see the "Grade scales" card (in the New UI). I see "Gradebook options" and "Grading categories," but nothing else.

Thanks!

Scott Taylor

Hello Aaron,

It is likely that your domain administrator has turned off the Grade Scale option for your domain. Please reach out to them to verify.

Thank you, Scott!

Marc Collins

@Scott Taylor, how do you turn off the Grade Scale option for the domain?

Scott Taylor

Hello Marc,

Information on how to toggle features in the new UI can be found in the article: How do I enable/disable Features in my domain?
