You can set up Buzz to notify you when certain actions and changes occur, like when a student submits an activity or has an enrollment change.

To manage notifications:

  1. Open the User Menu from the top-right corner of the toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Under Notification Preferences provide your phone number and Carrier if you want to receive SMS notification on your phone.
  4. In the other notification cards, indicate how you want to receive notifications:
    • By SMS and/or Email
    • Daily and/or Weekly

Is there a way you can add to the student selections 'Notify me when: I have an assignment due'?

This is currently not an option, but I think that it is a great idea. When do you think a student would/should be notified of an upcoming due date?

In my opinion it would be nice for them to get notified one week before the date in Buzz.  It would also be nice to notify them if they miss a due dated. This might be two different options: When I have an assignment due;  When I have an overdue assignment. Thank you!

Hello again! I was also wondering if teachers are able to 'override' a student's options or to input options for the students in a course? So, the teacher can select 'send text message' or 'email' to notify a student when feedback has been posted.

Hi Brad, is there any more discussion with Agilix to add the option for a student to receive notification when an assignment is due and/or when an assignment is past due?

Hello Jocelyn!

A teacher will not be able to modify another user's personal preferences settings.

I have not heard of more discussion on the topic of notifying students when items are nearing to be due. Please reach out to your authorized point of contact to request an enhancement ticket be submitted to Support if this is a priority request.

In the Teacher notification area, I want teachers to get emails of when kids submit assignments.

Do I need to check Daily, in addition to Email, or does that result in a daily digest?

Hello Mike!

If one only selects for example "email"  the user would get an email immediately. Whereas selecting "weekly" would be delayed. If you hover your cursor over the header words above the boxes we display an information box that will show the timing of the notification.

This is a fantastic feature! I have notifications set for Daily, "When a student submits something" and I am noticing I don't receive notifications of student discussion board posts. My discussion board posts are set as gradable and show up in my Needs Grading list. Am I setting the notifications correctly so I can see when discussion posts are submitted?

Hello Annette!

We have made a recent change to allow for a notification to occur when a student submits to a discussion board item. This should be available in the next release cycle.

Hi Brian - I see your note from January 2019 (above) about notifications occurring when a student submits a discussion board item.  When you say 'next release cycle' -- when is that roughly?  Any other details to point us to for how this would work?  I'm getting requests from teachers who want to use discussion boards more and feel notifications would help conversations to flow more...

Thanks for all your work!

Hello Chad,

We perform updates to the system generally every Thursday of the week.

Oh - then is this feature in the wild? I see the notifications as a teacher and student -- I don't see anything specific to discussion boards or replies on a discussion board.  Is there more information about this -- I searched the help area and didn't find anything...

The behavior that I described in January is live.
When the email teacher notification for "A student submits something" is selected within their user settings.Teachers should now receive an email notification when one of their students submits a discussion board post.

Great!  What about if a student responds or replies to another student on a discussion board -- do students get email notifications for that?  Do they have to turn on?

Currently students will not receive an email notification in that case. Instead they may view replies to their discussion board posts within their student activity stream (option located on their homepage) or by opening the discussion board activity.

Okay. Thanks.  Is there a place for feature requests for the future releases?  I would love to see a reply to a post trigger an email to the student, much like the functionality of this discussion board here in the help center where the user/student could click REPLY from the email and get right to what's needed.  I think that would increase the frequency of the discussions.  RIght now, when we try to use discussion boards with staff or students, they become stagnant because users don't know when others have replied if they aren't in Buzz for another reason.

Thanks!

Absolutely! You may submit feedback to our Buzz:Product Feedback page. Or you may submit an enhancement request ticket to Agilix Support.

Hope this helps!

I'll add a big "thumbs-up" to Chad's request and for the same reasons. There is a similar thread here.

I have stopped receiving immediate teacher notifications when my students submit an assignment/assessment that needs grading. I have the settings checked as seen below:

Is my setting choice correct for immediate notification by email? Any other suggestions for why the immediate notifications by email have stopped appearing? Thanks!

Hi Annette!

That is the correct setting to receive email notifications right away. I tested in my environment with the teacher notification set to receive an email and submitted an activity. I then received an email after submitting the activity. So it appears the system is working correctly. I recommend confirming the email address for your user account on file hasn't changed and the incoming emails aren't being passed to your junk mail folder or being filtered out by a local firewall.

Brian I too stopped receiving notifications that were flowing related to assignment submissions.  The notification settings are working for "A students' enrollment status changes" as I got notifications there today too.  So I know my email is working and I like Annette am not finding them in spam.  Now we opted out of the new activity player and are in the old version.  Would the update last week to that affect the notifications on assignment submissions?

Thank you for your assistance,

Michele

It's possible the email was blocked from getting to the end user by a local school network setting (their local I.T. would need to address this). You may test this by changing your email address in your user settings to use a personal email account to see if that account receives an email.

The update last week had no effect on the notifications that are passed to users within the system.

Thank you Brian.  We will try swapping out to a personal email account.  Just seems odd that some notifications are coming through as they have in the past related to enrollment status changes, but others like submitting an activity are not.
