Coming soon: UI improvements to support accessibility and usability in Buzz

As part of our ongoing efforts to support accessibility, we will be making the following updates. 

These changes are relatively minor and should improve the Buzz experience for all of our users. However, because the school year is starting for many of you, we wanted to let you know about the changes in advance. 

Updated page title order and placement - Coming 08/27/2026

To better support screen readers and improve usability, we are updating the order and placement of page titles on some screens.

Currently, when a course is selected in the Teacher and Student apps, the course title appears first, followed by the selected tool title. Because both titles share the same line, the tool title, and sometimes the course title, can be truncated.

With this update, the tool title will appear first, with the course title displayed below it. This gives screen reader users a clearer indication of which page they are on and gives both titles more space, making them less likely to be truncated.

Updated activity due date indicators in the Calendar - Coming 08/27/2026

To improve accessibility, we are updating the due date indicators in the Calendar.

Currently, days with due items can display multiple colored dots, with each color corresponding to a course. Because these indicators rely on color to distinguish between courses, they can be difficult for some users to interpret.

With this update, any day with due items will display a single indicator along with the number of items due that day. Users can continue to select the day to view the full list of due items, as well as hide courses from the view and the number displayed to reflect only the visible course due dates.

Side menu layout for Domain settings - Coming soon

We will be updating the Domain Settings screen to make settings easier to find and manage.

Currently, Domain Settings are organized into a series of cards that require users to scroll through the page. With this update, the cards will be organized in a side menu so users can select the setting they want to view or edit directly.

We will also be adding a search bar that looks across both menu titles and the content within each section, making it easier to filter for and quickly find specific settings.
