How does Buzz handle Due dates, Visibility dates, and Score release dates for students in different time zones?

If you're assigning deadlines in a course where all participants are in the same time zone as you, you can set any Due date and Time you want, and Buzz will use your shared time zone.

However, because Buzz can be used for virtual courses, participants in the same course might live in different time zones. Teachers and other course authors should take this into account when creating courses with specified deadlines for Due dates, Visibility dates, and Score release dates.

Accommodating students in multiple time zones can be tricky. Buzz makes it easy to adjust for this by assigning start-of-day and end-of-day deadlines where needed.

Assigning Due dates that adjust for time zones

Due Dates (when an activity is due): When assigning a Due date in a course with students in multiple time zones, always set the Time field to 11:59 PM to set an automatically adjusting end-of-day deadline.

This ensures that every student in the course has until the end of their day, regardless of where they live. If you enter any other time in that field, Buzz uses your time zone rather than adjusting.

You can assign/edit Due dates in the following locations:

Note: If you do not see a Time field, like when dragging an activity to a date in the Scheduling screen, Buzz automatically assigns 11:59 PM as the deadline.

Assigning Visibility dates that adjust for time zones

Visibility dates (when students are given access to the activity): When assigning a Visibility date in a course with students in multiple time zones, always set the Time field to 12:00 AM to set an automatically adjusting start-of-day deadline.

This ensures that every student in the course gets access to the activity at the beginning of their day, regardless of where they live. If you enter any other time in that field, Buzz uses your time zone rather than adjusting.

You can assign/edit Visibility dates in the following locations:

Note: If you do not see a Time field, like when dragging an activity to a date in the Scheduling screen, Buzz automatically assigns 12:00 AM as the deadline.

Assigning Score release dates that adjust for time zones

Score release dates (when students see scores for an activity): When assigning a Score release date in a course with students in multiple time zones, always set the Time field to 12:00 AM to set an automatically adjusting start-of-day deadline.

This ensures that every student in the course gets access to the scores at the beginning of their day, regardless of where they live. If you enter any other time in that field, Buzz uses your time zone rather than adjusting.

You can assign/edit Score release dates in the following locations:

Note: If you do not see a Time field, like when dragging an activity to a date in the Scheduling screen, Buzz automatically assigns 12:00 AM as the deadline.
