We are currently seeing issues in Speechstream with our Responsive Education Solutions (non-BT) classes, including Principles of Law. The program will read/interact with the frame (name of class, lesson, buttons on the top bar), but refuses to interact with any of the content of the lesson, using click to read or just turning on the text-speech. We have this same issue with all outside access tools (translate, other reading tools, etc), but the built-in tools are not working in the class, so students with accommodations are not getting support in this set of classes.

Good morning, Melody!
In order for me to investigate, may I please be provided with the course ID and the activity ID where this reported behavior is occurring?
Thank you!
Course ID: 231264749
lesson ID d1245116b90740ecad82ec4340b4fcc5
(I checked the first unit, and it doesn't connect to speechstream)
this is what the scripting error reads
Thank you Melody!
I will need to further investigate and will update you as soon as possible.
Hello again, Melody! Here is what I uncovered through my investigation:
The lesson content is embedded in an iframe, and due to browser security limitations, SpeechStream and other reading or translation tools can't access content inside it. To get SpeechStream working with this content, there are two supported options:
Option 1: Split the lesson and the quiz into two activities
One-time setup (domain admin):
Go to Admin → Domain → Settings and click the
<>button (top right) to open the text editor. On the Application settings tab, add this line just above
</settings>:<speechstream allscos="true" />Click Save.
For each lesson:
Create a Custom activity, choose Course resource, and select the lesson's HTML file.
Check "Completion and score set by content (SCO)."
Place it before a separate assessment that holds just the quiz questions.
SpeechStream will read the lesson, and it keeps its full styling and audio buttons. Please Note: this activity won't record completion or a score, so it shouldn't be used as a prerequisite to unlock the assessment.
Option 2: Paste the lesson directly into the assessment
In the assessment's Content editor, click the
<>button to open the code view.Paste the lesson's HTML in place of the iframe.
SpeechStream will read it, and completion works normally. Some adjustments will likely be needed to keep the styling, and interactive features that rely on scripts won't work, because the editor removes them.
Is there no way to fix it without having to duplicate and edit every assignment or remove access to updates?
Hi Melody,
Unfortunately, there isn’t a fix we can make on the Buzz side. The lessons load inside an embedded frame from a separate web address, and browsers block outside tools like SpeechStream, translators and other reading extensions from reaching content in that kind of frame.
The good news is that you shouldn’t need to edit every teacher’s course or lose updates. The teacher courses, such as Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security A - Dyer (231264749), are copies of the master course AZ MASTER Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security - Semester A (229690999), and they continue to receive changes made there. If the lessons are updated once in the master course, using either option from our previous reply, those changes will flow down to the teacher courses automatically and they’ll keep getting updates.
A couple of notes:
Is there a setting that we can set in our managed Chrome/Google Ed Workspace to fix it?
There isn’t a Chrome or Google Workspace setting that will allow this to work. The block comes from the browser’s own security rules, which stop tools on the page from reaching content loaded inside a frame from a different web address. Managed browser policies can’t turn that off.
To get SpeechStream and other reading tools working with these lessons, the content needs to be set up using one of the two options Trevor described above. As mentioned in my last reply, making that change once in the master course, AZ MASTER Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security - Semester A (229690999), will carry it down to the teacher courses, so they don’t each need to be edited.
