Hello! We are testing out some of the Advanced Options in Course Settings and noticed that the "Automatically allow retries for below-passing activities" does not seem to work retroactively, although the settings for " Automatically assign the minimum activity score to past-due activities" and "Automatically mark past-due activities as missing" do work retroactively.
The reason we are testing this out is to see if we can create a scenario where:
- an assignment isn't turned in on its due date, so then...
- it is automatically assigned a 0% AND....
- it is automatically marked as Missing but ALSO
- it is automatically allowed a Retry.
What we are finding in our testing, however, is that only the 0% and Missing indicators are applying retroactively to past-due assignments. This is the case whether it is a dropbox or assessment type. Is this intended functionality or should the Retry also be applied?
I was thinking that maybe because there isn't an official "submission", only a score, maybe that's why the Retry isn't coming through? But, whether the teacher or system is adding a grade, the "Allow Retry" button does become active even if there isn't an official "submission" so I am not sure that should be the case... Any clarification is appreciated, thanks!

Hello Meri,
Based on your testing scenario, I can explain why this setting is not being enforced. The “Automatically allow retries for below-passing activities” option does not apply once an activity has passed its due date or when the grace period has expired.
Thanks for the clarification, Brian! In the future, it would be great if there was an option to keep the automated retry available past the due date.
Last question for now - does this same logic apply when using the Automatically allow retries for below-passing activities through the individual Accommodation menu? Is it only active there until a Due Date has passed, or does the retry stay active after that point?
Happy to assist!
The behavior logic should be the same.
