"missing" assignments

Is there a way to put in a code like M for missing assignments that would reflect a 0 for the grade on that assignment in the overall grade but not count the assignment as a completed item in the gradable completion score? I have students who skip a major project in a course and if I put a 0% it drops there overall grade but then it changes their completion percentage as if they had completed that project. I'd love it if there was an option to put an M or some other code that would calculate a 0% on that assignment in their overall percentage without changing the gradable percentage score. Is that a possiblity ? Thanks!

Hi Miesha!

There is not a good way to do this. It may be possible if the activity is set to drop the score from the calculated course score and the setting to include the score in the final grade calculation. However, that may not be ideal if you want it to be included for some students. It will also still show up as completed.
