Just some feedback I've received from teachers at my school on the update to the New Activity item picker dialog:
1. Totally get the desire to educate folks by providing fuller descriptions, appreciate that impulse! However :) the result is quite a bit more clunky to use—the default picker screen (tile mode) has a bewildering amount of content visible.
2. One reason the amount is bewildering is that by default, the picker shows every activity type from every category. We've developed some specialized templates for purposes not suited to every class or every teacher, and those clutter the view significantly. Obviously teachers can work around this by starring just the ones they want to use, by switching to list view instead of grid view, by filtering on built-in, etc. But it seems like the picker prioritizes the least common use case (someone brand new to Buzz who doesn't know what the activity types are or how to deploy them), and teachers at my school find that frustrating.
Why not treat as default someone who knows which activity type they want to use, then put in the extra details as an ℹ️ info pop-out?
Why not make the built-in filter the default view, then folks can unfilter or switch filters as needed? The simplicity of the few (comparatively) built-in types seems like it would make for a less overwhelming default interface.
3. Last thing: in list view, I keep finding myself clicking the activity type's title to try to add it (instead of going all the way to the add button on the far right of my screen). That feels intuitive -- could that be added as an option?
Thanks, guys, for your work on Buzz -- we love using it!
