Digest : How does it work?

When I go into my settings, under "Master course notifications," I have it set up to receive daily digests for all three options: change course settings, changes an activity, and deletes an activity.

I have a TA adding some content to a course and was waiting for it to show up in my digest when he added some content. I saw that he had inserted some pages on Saturday (January 20). However, I did not get an email from Agilix noting any changes made (although I have received emails from Agilix on the 17th, 18th, yesterday, and today, so I know I am receiving them). Any thoughts as to why I am not getting updates for the course?

Thinking out loud… looking at the emails I have received so far, I seem to get emails when things are “changed” or “deleted.” Since these items are being “created” and not changed or deleted, is that why I don’t receive notices? Is there any plans to add that as an option moving forward?

I checked this specific course, and I am listed as the “owner.” That makes sense since I created the copy my TA is working in. I checked my status on a few of the other courses I have gotten updates for. For both of those other courses, a different teacher is listed as the owner. I’m not even listed as a user of the course, so odd that I would get the change emails. I thought they only went to the “teacher” of the course. I have worked in these courses adding, changing, and deleting content if that makes a difference.

Thank you for any help you can provide. Please let me know if you need additional information besides what I have provided.

The "Master course notifications" notify if something is changed in the master course of a course you own. So, in the case of your TA making changes, were they making the changes in the master course or in the child/derivative course?

I will follow up with our team to see if notifications are supposed to be sent if items are created – since I do not know if "changes" is supposed to account for newly created items.

Hi Brad,

It is the master course that they were making changes in.

I have verified that there is not currently any way to be notified of newly added items, only changes and deletions of existing items. I have flagged it, though, as an enhancement request.

Does this sound like the reason why you were not being notified?

Brad,

Thank you for the follow-up. Yes, that does answer the first part of my concern. For now, I will just have to check that course every few days to see if he has been working in it and how far he has gotten.

For the second anomaly, I wrote:

Any idea why I am receiving updates to a course where I am not listed on the course at all (as a teacher nor an owner)? On the flip side, would it be possible that I didn't receive updates where I was the teacher/owner of a course?

Thank you!

Hey Chad:

To receive notifications, a change would have been made in a master course, whether you are the owner or enrolled in that master course. So, for example, let's say you purchased a course from a publisher and they gave you a derivative of their master. You would receive updates if the publisher made any changes to their master of the course. This may or may not address your reported problem. If it does not, could you have your team submit a ticket to us so that we can get more details (course IDs, copies of the email sent, etc.)?
