Badges getting awarded incorrectly

I have a badge set to award in a journal activity when the student submits a post. However, I noticed 1 student was awarded the badge but they have not submitted a post. The badge was awarded when the grade was updated to 0. How can I better ensure the badges are only awarded when the completion criteria are met?

Good morning Betsy!

Badges are awarded when a student completes the item as expained in our help center article: Here

It sounds like in the reported case, scoring the item made the grade status be completed and therefore awarded the student a badge. May I please know if it was manually graded or if it was auto-flunked with completion as defined in the course settings?

Could I please be provided with the student's enrollment ID and activity ID of the journal activity so that I may explore the settings?

Thank you!

Yes, I understand how badges are awarded. The activity settings say the badge will be awarded when the student "successfully completes" the activity. The completion settings are when a student makes a post in the journal.

The student did not make a post

The teacher updated the grade manually with a 0.

The badge was awarded.

So it was not awarded according to the completion settings. Also, I wouldn't call 0 point a successful completion.

I would be happy to provide IDs in an email rather than a public forum.
