Match expression

I want to write a fill in the blank question where I give the students a polynomial such as 2x + 3x^2 -1 and they have to write it in standard form. The correct answer would be 3x^2 + 2x - 1. I would expect "match expression" to apply here. They need to write an expression just like the answer. Unfortunately, they can type the terms in any order they want and it is marked correct. So the students could literally copy and paste the expression from the question and get it right. That sounds more like the behavior I would expect from "functional equivalent."

The only work-around that I know is to take out the "Option: Match" so it is checking the exact text. I don't like that because if students put spaces or no spaces it makes a difference. I would literally have to type dozens of possible correct answers. Another issue with text answers is that they don't get the equation editor to see a preview of their answer. Also, part of the goal is for students to become familiar with using an equation editor, since many standardized tests now include an online portion.

Unless there is another option I'm missing, can you add another equation option where order matters? Maybe it could look something like: "Option: Match, Order" or maybe "Option: Match Exact."

Hey Bruce, I would recommend having your support contact (Jeremy?) create this as a ticket. It looks like some investigation is needed and support could provide the best help.

Thanks.
