We have teachers who teach special subjects (Music, for example) at multiple buildings. Our groups are set up by our SDS by school, by grade level, and by section. Those teachers have some different assignments that they use for the different school. So they would like to create some of their own groups that combined the SDS groups by school.
Currently, assigning students to different groups like that is a bit cumbersome.
Here's a workflow that I think would be easier.
Go to performance, filter to show only one group, click to select all students, add to the clipboard. Continue for all groups from a particular school.
Then when going to the clipboard tool, if you all added an option to add selected to a group, this would be super easy.
Let me know if you need further explanation or clarification.
Thanks for considering this request.

Hey Jeremy, thank you for the idea.
When you say "filter to show only one group," what are you implying? Are you suggested this is a course group and you would want to assign these groups to another group? Are these students is multiple courses, not a single course?
Sorry that I missed updating this Brad. It would be great if the People screen could have a filter tool allowing the user to filter by course groups just as they can on the Performance--Gradebook screen. They could then quickly select a course group and add them to different course group where perhaps they are combining three existing course groups, but not everyone in the course.
The students are in a single course in my example.
Hope that helps,
Jeremy
Hey Jeremy, I was reviewing this and wanted to check on something. Right now, you can add multiple groups to the Clipboard. For example, open the Clipboard, browse to the group, and add them to the Student List. If you do this for each desired group, you could then add them to its own Quick List. This would allow the teacher to assign activities/badges/tasks or send messages to all of the students of these groups at one across multiple courses.
Is this what you were wanting or needing to accomplish?
Hi Brad,
I think that process could be used in certain circumstances. The biggest issue I get from teachers about doing it that way is that the assignments don't show up in the regular gradebook and the only way to access the student performance on activities assigned through the clipboard is by date through the for me screen and by clicking on each individual student. That isn't really helpful when dealing with 180 plus students and tracking their performance quickly (i.e. at a glance).
Here's one of the case uses that just came up this week.
A class is doing a project and wants to create heterogenous groups to do the project. They could use the manage groups tool to do that, but that will group heterogenously across 6 different periods of students so that doesn't work. What they really want to do is create subgroups within an existing group. So, in the Manage groups tool, if they could filter the students by an existing group in a different group set and then use the create group tool to create new groups that are really subgroups of an existing group, they would be really happy. I would suggest that the clipboard tool ought to have the same capability so that you could auto-create quick lists that would do the same thing too.
In the case use that I started with, the teacher is a PE teacher across multiple grade levels and multiple schools. So she might be able to do an activity at one school that she doesn't do at other schools. To make it easier for her to manage visibility and grade submissions, etc. She wanted to take her 6 groups for that one school and create one big group and do the same for her groups at the other schools so that she could manage everything via three school groups say in a groupset called schools.
I'm still not sure I'm being clear enough here, but let me know if I'm helping a little.
Thanks!
Jeremy
