This article outlines how to integrate Buzz with Turnitin using LTI 1.3.
Don't use these instructions if you have an existing LTI 1.1 Turnitin integration
If you have an existing LTI 1.1 integration with Turnitin, you must follow migration steps to upgrade to LTI 1.3 without losing access to past assignments or submissions.
How do I migrate from LTI 1.1 to LTI 1.3 for Turnitin integrations?
1. In Turnitin: Create a new LTI 1.3 registration
Turnitin instructions: Configuring Feedback Studio in LTI 1.3
Open turnitin.com as an administrator:
- Select the name of the account and then Integrations from the side navigation.
- Click LTI 1.3.
- Click Get started.
- In the LMS provider dropdown, select Other.
- Enter a Registration Name for internal use (e.g., Agilix Buzz). Keep this browser tab open.
2. In Buzz: Add Turnitin as LTI 1.3 tool
Return to Buzz:
- Open Domain settings and scroll to LTI 1.3 tools.
- Click Add.
- Enter a Title for the tool (we recommend Turnitin) and an optional Description for internal use.
- In the Hostname field, enter turnitin.com. This field must be exact with no extra spaces.
- Select all of the options in the following dropdown menus:
- User data sent at launch: Given name, Family name, Display name, Email
- LTI services: Assignment and grade, Names and role provisioning, Deep linking
- Copy the following values from the new LTI 1.3 registration you created in Turnitin and paste them into Buzz. These must be copied exactly.
- Tool Public Key set URL is pasted into Tool key set URL
- Login Initiation URL is pasted into OpenID connect login URL
- Launch URL / Tool Redirect URLs are pasted into Tool redirect URLs (separate these URLs with a comma and no space between)
- Target Link URI is pasted into Deep-linking redirect URLs (this field appears in Buzz only after select Deep linking in the LTI services dropdown)
- Scroll down until you see the Client ID field. Keep this browser tab open.
3. In Turnitin: Add Buzz LMS details to Turnitin and save
Return to your Turnitin LTI 1.3 registration browser tab:
- Scroll to LMS details.
- Copy the following values from the new LTI 1.3 registration you created in Buzz and paste them into Turnitin. These must be copied exactly.
- Client ID is pasted into Client ID
- Issuer is pasted into Issuer
- Platform key set URL is pasted into Platform public key set URL
- OpenID connect auth URL is pasted OpenID connect login endpoint
- OAuth2 access token is pasted into Access token URL
- Save.
4. In Buzz: Finalize and save LTI 1.3 configuration
Return to Buzz:
- Under Custom parameters, check the following boxes:
- Domain-wide
- Enabled
- Click Done.
- Save your Domain settings.
5. Set up an assignment to link integration
Now you must set up a dummy assignment to link your integration to the correct Turnitin account ID:
- In the Buzz Editor, click Add activity.
- Select the External tools filter in the Add activity screen.
- Click Add on your Turnitin tool.
- Choose Global.
- Choose the correct Turnitin account.
- Click Next.
You are prompted to confirm you selection and you are given a confirmation screen. You can now delete the dummy assignment if you want.
