Student Groupings

One of the largest operational pain points in Buzz is the manual management of student groupings. These groupings are used to manage accommodations, differentiated assignments, and instructional support structures such as IEP-related adjustments.

Currently, teachers are responsible for manually creating groupings and assigning students to them. This process is time-consuming, inconsistent, and prone to errors. It is also one of the primary reasons teachers currently retain course editing access.

A longer-term objective is to explore a database-driven and automated grouping framework that reduces the need for manual teacher intervention.  Any recommendations you have?

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the feedback. We understand the challenges around managing student groupings and the impact this has on teachers.

At this time, automated or database-driven grouping is not available within Buzz. These types of solutions would need to be done using our API.

We appreciate you sharing this use case and have passed it along to our team.

Is there documentation if there is a relationship id that identifies a student as a member of a group?

Hey Paul,

Thank you for your question. This API document shows which group ID an enrollment belongs to: GetEnrollmentGroupList

An alternative approach would be to use Data Streams, that way you can track group membership by filtering for specific Group Events. You can visit the Help Center documents I linked for more information on that.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a great day!
