Feature idea (LEVEL 1)
Currently on an assignment-type problem, I am unable to mark that a student is able to retry this assignment. The retry icon in the gradebook has become a good indicator for students and parents that they are able to retry an assignment, regardless of being a computer or paper-based assignment.
I would like to have the ability to mark any assignment as retry in the gradebook.

In general we do not allow a teacher to grant a retry to a student who has not initially submitted the item. This would defeat the purpose of a retry. If the student has submitted the item and you are unable to grant a retry, could you provide reproduction steps for me to verify the issue?

I respectfully disagree that this would defeat the purpose of a retry. If a student has a paper assignment, which still exists in a blended environment, a student could have the opportunity to retry or redo this assignment. By using the "allow retry" on these types of assignments, I can still indicate to my students and parents that they are eligible to retry this item.
My goal is more about communication than anything else.

One may set the item's completion to when they receive any score so that when the teacher submits a grade to the student, they can issue a retry to the student without the student having initiated the first submission. Otherwise it is expected behavior that if the completion trigger is set to when a student submits we do not allow the teacher to grant a retry to the student even if they pass a score to the student. The purpose of the retry function is to provide the student another attempt at the item.

I believe this would provide me with the desired outcome. However, after changing the setting to marking as complete when the student receives any score, I am still unable to allow a retry.
