When I click on the grading template icon and the grading template window pops up, the background is grayed out and I cannot see the grading dashboard. For several days, I could see the grading dashboard behind the pop-up window, but now it's solid gray. The problem is that I can't tell if it populates the template I clicked on, which has caused me to click on the template a couple of times, and when I get back to the grading dashboard I have to spend time deleting the excess writing.
In my testing with and without dark color scheme, I was able see the grading column / background as seen my attached screenshot. We slightly shade the background, but it should still be visible when the template picker window is open. Could you provide me with your enrollment ID where this is occurring so I can determine what might be causing the reported behavior?
Thank you for your quick response. What enrollment ID do you need? Where do I find this information? Here is a screenshot of what is happening when I click on the grading template icon:
If you could copy the URL from your browser when you are viewing the Grade Editor in that undesired state and paste it here, that will allow me to to navigate to that area in Buzz and attempt to experience your reported behavior as part of my investigation.
Thank you for passing the link over! That end point takes me to the teacher's Needs Grading page, which unfortunately there are no items to currently grade. Could you instead, navigate to the Teacher Gradebook and click on a gradable cell to open the grade editor where this reported behavior is occurring and paste that URL here? Thank you!
I copied the link when I was on my grading dash and clicked on the grading template icon and the window popped up with the grayed-out background. I just tried it again here is the link from the URL
I'm not talking about EDITING templates. The image I shared with you is what I see when I am in my grading dashboard and click on the grading template icon. See the image below where it clearly shows have clicked on the grading template icon because it is asking which template to insert (I circled it in red). As you can see, I cannot see my grading dashboard behind the pop-out window. I know you are trying to help, but this is extremely frustrating. There were several days last week when I could see my grading dash behind the pop-out window, like in the first image you shared with me. NOW it is always grayed out. What other URL link can I send you so you can fix this issue?
Using the latest version of Chrome on a Windows 11 machine, I was able to locate a user ID 53081435 (I believe this is your user) that I proxied as and then navigated to the Grade Editor and Needs Grading page for my test student. I selected from the Messages window toolbar the Templates button. I was unable to replicate this reported behavior. Is it possible your local device might be using a dark color mode that might be conflicting with Buzz?
Yes, that looks like my grading templates. Yay, you found me! I am using a MAC, I always use Chrome, and I have the mode set for auto, which is light for day and dark for night. The image I took was from this morning while my appearance is set to day/light. So I don't know why it shows transparent for you but not me. I will switch the setting to light only. There is also a setting that says "Allow wallpaper tinting in windows" and I switched that off. Let me see if that makes a difference.
Brian, I think changing the appearance setting to "light" helped. I restarted my computer after changing the settings and now my grading dash is transparent behind the pop-out window (see the image below). I hope it stays this way. I will reach out to you again if it is grayed out tomorrow.
In your testing, it might be possible to still use "Auto" mode on your Mac and change the theme color in Buzz to Use System Preference. Could you test to see if that works too? The theme is accessed by clicking on your Profile picture at the top right of the page in Buzz, select Settings from the menu, then locate the "Choose a theme color" card to adjust the Color scheme as seen in my screenshot below.
Brian, I AM GOING TO CRY!! It went back to being grayed out. I chose "Use system preference" and restarted my computer and when I clicked on the grading template icon it was grayed out again. My computer setting is still set on light mode. I didn't change it back to auto.
Could you try again? I changed your user profile theme setting in Buzz to use the "Light color scheme" setting. If that doesn't resolve it, then I would recommend reverting your Mac setting by setting it back to "Light" as seen from the Apple documentation.
I changed the setting back to "Light". I updated my MAC to the latest macOS Sequoia 15.0. I looked at the theme setting in Buzz and saw that you changed it to "Light color scheme" (I didn't change it back to "Use system preference") and when I restarted my computer it still grays out my grading dash. HELP! When it is grayed out it practically doubles the amount of time I spend grading an assignment. I grade over 400 assignments per week! I know you are trying to help me Brian, but I don't know what else to do. I have the same settings as other MAC users and they are not having this issue. I NEVER had an issue with the grading templates when they were located under the feedback box. I am going on my 9th year using Buzz and I have never had one complaint. YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! This is making it impossible to do my job efficiently and effectively. Brian, please help fix this issue.
Thank you for sharing your latest experience with Mac Sequoia in Chrome.
The reason for graying out the background seen in my screenshots is to help teachers focus on selecting a feedback template in the foreground, while the background is meant to not be interactive. If a grader clicks or attempts to interact outside of the insert template window, it will close that window.
Since the reported behavior is happening on your local device and other Mac users aren’t encountering the same behavior, including after I proxy as your user account with a Mac using the same operating system version and Chrome browser (see screenshot below), it would appear related to a local device setting.
In the past within this thread, you indicated adjusting a local setting on your Mac that allowed you to see the background just slightly obscured. If those local system setting changes are no longer resolving the behavior, as a workaround I would recommend within the Insert Template window, select from the template list a template you want to provide to the student, then select the Close button. That should reveal your chosen template context in the Messages window.
I sincerely apologize that I have been unable to replicate and resolve this reported behavior for you. If this is something that needs urgent attention, I recommend reaching out to your school's support representative for assistance.

In the attached screenshot is what I encounter. We don't show a clear background.
"For several days, I could see the grading dashboard behind the pop-up window, but now it's solid gray."
I don't know why it was showing the grade dashboard behind it. It should be grayed out as in my screenshot.
