Due Dates

One of the posts stated that teachers have the option to set due dates under the editor tool, selecting the assignment, going to gradebook and then checking the box for due date. However when I do this there is not a box that says anything with regard to a due date. I know how to go under scheduling and drag the assignment onto the calendar. However when I do this, the date on the calendar shows the date I selected but when I go to grade an assignment through the performance tool a totally different date show in the grade editor box that pops up. Sometimes it is two weeks later than the date I selected and other times it just seems like some random date. How do I get it so that both the date on the scheduling calendar and the one in the grade editor box are synced?

From the sounds of the described behavior it seems as if you are attempting to set due dates on a continuous course. Continuous courses automatically assign doft due dates for the enrollments based on their enrollment dates, number of assignments, weight of the assignments, and more. They are soft due dates as they are intended to be pacing guides for students and they are able to submit beyond the due date. Continuous courses are designed to allow students to go at their own pace.

There is currently a known issue where due dates are able to be assigned on continuous courses via the Scheduling tab, though this is will be fixed soon in an upcoming update.

If you wish to have direct control over due dates for students it would be recommended to use the Range course type.

Has an option been created to turn off due dates for Continuous Courses?

There is not currently an option to turn off due dates for Continuous Courses. The due dates in Continuous courses are meant to be a guideline for pacing and are not enforced (meaning a student can complete them at any time after the due date so long as it's before the end of their enrollment).

When my students pass a due date that I set, they cannot do the activity or even re-do the activity, even though I select "allow retry." How do I fix this? I set all of the due dates in their course because their subscription ends in February, and I could not use the auto-set feature without it making errors.

Mary,

If the course is a continuous course they should be able to submit an item after the soft due date, and it would require coordinating with your authorized support contact to investigate that behavior.

If the course is a range course and a due date is assigned it may be required to set a grace period on the item which will allow the student to submit after the due date for the specified amount of time. In a range course a student cannot submit after the grace period even with a retry allowed.

Hello,

In my course set-up as a Range course the due dates for activities do not match the due dates that the student sees. For example, an activity has due date of 10/13 within the activity and for the student is shows 10/27. What could be causing this difference? Thank you!

Hello Cheree,

One possible cause could be if groups are enabled in your course and the due date has been set to a different date for that specific group. I would recommend reaching out to your authorized support contact to look at this further if you need additional assistance checking the course and group settings.
