You can filter displayed content in the activity view (Activities tool) and gradebook (Performance tool), but there's currently not a way to search, outright. The gradebook allows you to filter the display by folder, which can be a quick way to scan existing activities.

I am familiar with filtering content in the grade book. I often find myself searching for an assignment not knowing what folder it is in.
