Good question, Kevin. The "Returned Attachment" is a document in which you want to give to your student as feedback. While you can type in comments that will be visible to your student, if you use "Returned Attachment," they will also see attached files.
If a student submitted a Microsoft Word file for the activity, this could be the save file but with your comments and suggestions.
