In the help article "How do I create Assignments that ask for files, images, drawings, audio, video, URLs, and/or annotation?" it mentions for the Allowed submission types "File: This asks for a file, like a PDF or Word doc, to be uploaded from the student's device." and later in the document "If you have allowed the File Submission type, you can specify Allowed file extensions (e.g., pdf, Word doc) by entering the extensions in this field."

Does this mean that File only allows document type files? If so, why don't we say "Document?"

My hope is that the File type would accept any kind of file.

Hey Chad, the "File" option does allow for the selection of any file, not just document-type files. The "allowed file extensions" allows you to limit what are the allowed file types that can be uploaded. If you want anything to be uploaded, leave it blank. If you want only a specific type to be uploaded (e.g., a PDF), then you can specify "pdf" as the allowed file type.

Thank you! That is what I was hoping, but all of the examples in the help document were "document file" examples, so it almost felt like that was text only, and if we wanted to accept another option, we would have to select it instead of File.

I appreciate the clarification! :)

HI!  I have a follow up to this question.  I have found the area to adjust the file types that can be submitted under the settings for each assessment.

Our teachers would like to be able to only allow only google documents for all assessments in all of their classes.  Is there are way this can be changed globally by course or even by our domain?  This would be a huge benefit for our school to be able to make that change for the entire catalog of our courses for our teachers.  Thanks!
