Grade Column Not Visible in Gradebook

The grade column in my gradebook is not there. I've checked the gradebook settings multiple times, and I have the boxes checked to show the score, points, and letter grade, but none of those are there in any of my courses. When I proxy in as a student, the course grade is visible on their home page, but if I click their Grades page, the course grade does not show up at the top. What am I missing? I've used Buzz for years and never had this happen. I've even gone through and compared every single of one of my settings with a colleague whose grades are displaying properly, and I can't find any discrepancy.

Hi Rebecca!

I’ve been working to reproduce the behavior you're seeing and may have identified a possible cause. In my testing, I encountered the same issue, where the course grade is missing from the Gradebook (including in the student Grades page) when the “Enable weighted periods and final course score” option was disabled in the domain settings. This occurred specifically when viewing the Gradebook with “All periods” selected.

Could you check if that setting is currently disabled in your domain? If it’s already enabled, or if this doesn’t match your experience, would you be able to share a course ID where this behavior is occurring so that I can take a closer look?

Looking forward to your response. Thanks!

Hi Andrew!

Thank you for responding so quickly!  This did solve the problem, but can you explain why it was only causing issues for my courses and no one else's?  Shouldn't a domain setting affect everyone the same way?  I want to make sure I fully understand so that we don't have these kinds of problems again when we start the fall semester.

Rebecca,

Great question, and I'm glad to hear that the issue was resolved! Without seeing the exact scenario that caused this, it's tough to say. You're right that domain settings typically apply consistently across users. However in some cases, a user's view can be influenced by which domain they're authenticated to, especially in systems with multiple subdomains or complex domain hierarchies. If your account was authenticated through a domain where that setting was disabled, that could explain why you were seeing different behavior than your colleagues.

I hope this provides some clarity, and if you have any further questions or comments, I would be happy to address them. Thanks!
