Course setting "on" although not chosen

I have a student who cannot move forward in their course until viewing each screen for a minute. However, that setting is not turned on. I have changed the setting from "view for a specified time" to "marks as complete" and this turns on even though the box for them to complete before moving on is not checked. Can someone take a look at this?

You can see here the box is not chosen:

But the student cannot progress.  If they try to move past an item before a minute passes, it will not allow them.

Hi Julianne,

I would be happy to look into why this behavior is occurring! Could you please provide the course ID and activity ID where this is occurring as well as the enrollment ID of the user who is experiencing the inability to move on to the next activity? Additionally, is this behavior only occurring with this student, or are others experiencing it as well?

There is only one student currently taking the class for summer school. Is there a private location to send their enrollment ID?

Activity ID: ULA_Section8235705_3.0.0_08T39

It seems to be happening in all lesson overviews and studies, so many activities.  The above is one example.

Hello,

I was not able to find the course attached to the ID that you provided. But, an enrollment ID would tell me what course the student is in. You can obtain the user's enrollment ID if you go to the course Details page in Buzz, click on the Enrollments button in the tool bar and copy and paste the enrollment ID from the list of a user that is experiencing this reported behavior to the comment thread.

Rest assured, the enrollment ID and the activity ID are unique ID's that are not accessible from outside of your domain, and should be sufficient for Agilix Support to investigate this if you are able to provide it to the thread. However, if privacy concerns remain, another option would be to submit this request instead to your authorized support representative at School Pathways and, if needed, they can create a private ticket to Agilix Support.

Without the enrollment ID, I am not able to view the settings associated with the activity to narrow the cause down. That said, a couple of areas that could be causing this reported behavior:

  • If the activity is using LTI. Completion is set by the LTI provider tool.
  • If you are using student groups in the course, you may need to change the activity setting to apply that change for the specific group the student is in.

Understood, thank you. Here's the enrollment ID: 201081524.

This is an LTI course. We have had students in the course throughout the year without this problem. No changes have been made to the course on our end.

Thank you for providing that enrollment ID! I was able to locate the course and enrollment in order to investigate this further.

You mentioned in your original post:

I have changed the setting from "view for a specified time" to "marks as complete"

When viewing the settings for activity ID ULA_Section8235705_3.0.0_08T39 , I see that the current setting is to mark the activity as complete when the student "Views this activity for a specified time." I do not see in the activity history that this setting has ever been changed to "Marks as complete."

Due to the course setting "Students must complete each activity in order" being checked (see screenshot below for where to find this in the Course Settings), it is expected that the subsequent activities will be gated until the student achieves the activity completion trigger. This course setting was enabled on January 18th, 2024 by user ID 73676740.

If you disable that course setting, the student can complete activities out of sequential order, and can also move on to activities without needing to achieve the activity completion trigger defined in the activity settings (as long as the activity setting "Student must complete this activity before continuing to the next one" is not selected). For activities that have a time amount to complete, the student will need to achieve that to complete the activity. You can change that activity completion trigger to "Marks this activity complete" , which will allow the student to mark the activity complete when they want to.

Does that all make sense?

My apologies, I had tried changing the settings on multiple activities and only shared a sample in the screenshot.  It was activities in unit 2 I had changed settings on.  I believe it is the completing in order causing the issue.  Is there a way to find out the who that user ID is connected to so I can ask them not to make that update in the future?  Thank you!

Never mind, I just figured out user IDs.  Thank you so much!
