Say π hello to BusyBee, your AI-powered learning & teaching companion for Buzz. Learn more!
Agilix is dedicated to making Buzz accessible and follows 508 and WCAG 2.2 standards in design and development. These efforts are documented in our Accessibility Compliance Report (ACR) (VPAT) and WCAG 2.2 AA statement.
Student Accommodations and IEPs
Admins can set up specific Accommodations and IEPs for students, and teachers can review them.
Screen readers and Buzz
While other screen readers may work, Buzz is optimized for the NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) screen reader used with the Mozilla Firefox browser. NVDA can be used with other supported browsers, but we recommend using Firefox for the best user experience. Users install this third-party software and use it to read the Buzz application.
Buzz integrates with Texthelp's SpeechStream text-to-speech tool
The SpeechStream toolbar, from Everway, supports accessibility in a variety of ways, and Buzz makes it easy to integrate it.

How to use single-pointer alternatives for drag-and-drop actions
Because some people use assistive technology or devices that don't support complex gestures, Buzz offers the following single-pointer alternatives to drag-and-drop actions in the app to ensure everyone can interact with content:
- Actions toolbar - For onscreen tools that users can move
- Single-pointer button in toolbar - For drag-and-drop assessment questions
- List item arrows - For reordering items
Single-pointer button in toolbar
For assessment questions that ask users to drag and drop items using a mouse, Buzz includes a toolbar button that enables Single-pointer mode. When enabled, Single-pointer mode allows users to answer those questions without dragging the mouse, which can be difficult for users on certain devices.Β
Single-pointer mode enables alternatives for the following drag-and-drop questions:
- Dropdown matching is the alternative for Matching inline drag-and-drop questions.
- Checkbox matching is the alternative for Matching categorization drag-and-drop questions.
- Click to drag/Click to drop is the alternative for all other Matching drag-and-drop questions.
- List item arrows is the alternative for Ordering drag-and-drop questions.
Dropdown matching
Matching inline drag-and-drop questions have blank answer targets within sentences and a list of draggable answers that users can drag and drop on the targets.
When Single-pointer mode is enabled, the blank answer targets are replaced with dropdown menus that open with a single click to display answer options that can be selected with a click.
Checkbox matching
Matching categorization drag-and-drop questions have draggable items that can be dropped in a category target.
When Single-pointer mode is enabled, the items are listed as rows and the categories are listed as columns with a checkbox in each row. Users can select a category for each item with a single click.
Click to drag/Click to drop
For Matching drag-and-drop questions that don't use Dropdown menus or Checkboxes as alternatives, like Matching graphic drag-and-drop questions, enabling Single-pointer mode allows users to:
- Click the item that can be dragged once to select it.
- Click the target once to drop it.
To remove an item that has been dropped on a target, users can click a second item and click the target again to replace first item.
List item arrows
For items in a list that can be reordered using drag-and-drop, users can also open arrow buttons for each item to move them. List item arrows can be displayed when reordering course cards and when completing Ordering drag-and-drop questions.
To display and use list item arrows:
- Items in a list that can be reordered have drag handle icons next to them.
- Click anywhere on an item in the list, to display arrow buttons.
- Note: To display arrow buttons for Ordering drag-and-drop questions, users enable Single-pointer mode from the toolbar instead of clicking an item on the list.
- Use the arrows to move items up and down in the list. You can hide the buttons by clicking once on an item.
Responsive toolbar reflow
Buzz toolbars automatically reflow to adapt to user needs and device constraints. Reflow supports users who need large text or are navigating on a narrow screen.
For screens widths of 320px and below or magnified for larger text, toolbar buttons are consolidated into a single Actions button that displays all toolbar buttons in a dropdown menu.
Known exceptions
Note: Some assessment interactions use graphics in a way that are not accessible for users who require keyboard-only access or screen readers. Where this is the case, the following message is given to authors: Β
Graphic questions are not accessible for users who require keyboard-only access or screen readers.
