Delay in auto-assigned zeroes

How long does it take for Buzz to auto-assign zeroes past the due date? I have an assignment that was due by 11:59pm last night and at 8:26pm tonight about 2/3 of the students who didn't turn it in have auto-assigned zeroes and the other 1/3 still do not. Every time I go back in a few more zeroes appear, but it seems inconsistent. 2 of my 4 classes have all zeroes showing now, but 2 classes have only about 1/2 showing up 20 hours past the deadline. Any ideas why there is a delay or why it is so inconsistent?

I find that if the students have not logged in since the automatic grade change occurred, then the scores will not have updated until they log in.  Check the last login time.

I just spot-checked that theory, and I have an assignment that was due at midnight last night and kids who logged on this morning but still have the assignment missing but no zero.

This is performed by an automated task. As a general rule it is best to wait 24-48 hours after the target date since you may be working with different time zones of when the activity's target date was created when compared to UTC. If it still doesn't flunk after 48 hours we would like to look into what may be causing the reported behavior.

A new issue related to this is popping up.  When a student comes to our school and has not been enrolled elsewhere they are required to complete assignments from the beginning.  However, zeros are only populating for these students for the prior two weeks from the enrollment date(or current date).  It seems like this is coded this way to save on some computing power.  New enrollments should be flagged and should get a full run-through on zeros.

Ryan Josephson, the zeros will only apply to activities that have a due date between the enrollment's start and end dates. If you look at the student's gradebook where it displays both the grades, due dates, and the enrollment's start/end dates, does it look like the assignments should have zeros applied?

I see now that the due dates are before the enrollment start date for the student.  I wasn't aware of this affecting this setting.  Thanks for your help, I can edit enrollment dates to clear it up.

As an FYI, the reason why past due dates are not assigned a zero in this case is to protect the learner from a teacher that forgot to update the dates from a previous term or protect the learner from receiving a zero for activities that they could not have turned in because they were not enrolled in the course at the time it was due. In the case that those assignments should still be completed for the learner, the teacher can adjust the due dates for the assignments to a future date in which the learner can still submit them.
