Issue with Fractions

I was going to build an assessment over slope. I was testing different possible answers and discovered this issue.

Here is the code I used to test answers:

Type: F, Match
1) slope = _____
a. -2/3

When I was testing answers the server marked -2/3 correct as expected, but it marks 2/-3 incorrect.

I would expect the answer to be marked correct whether the negative sign is in the numerator or the denominator. I would understand if the answer were 2/3 the server would mark -2/-3 wrong because the answer could still be simplified. But -2/3 and 2/-3 are just different forms of the same answer. There isn't any simplification necessary for either.

I consider this analogous to the expression 2x+3. Even with the setting "Match" the server will also count 3+2x correct.

I am not sure if you have already solved the problem you were having, but when I used your code, it was marked correctly.

Type: F, Match
1) slope = _____
a. -2/3

However, I would have expected equivalent to mark this correct as well, but the equivalent option marked this incorrectly.

Hmmm. Still doesn't work for me. Here is a screen cap of the code and the graded example

Bruce,

I was able to reproduce your same behavior, we'll take a closer look at it internally to diagnose the behavior. Thank you for bringing this to out attention. The release notes will show when this behavior is corrected, however there is no ETA.
