Importing Course from Zip file

In previous versions of both BrainHoney AND Buzz, a course could be exported (and, indeed, a Buzz course still has that option) to a zip file.

That course could then be imported to create a new course at any time.

This option seems to have disappeared, without warning...which is disconcerting considering several teachers were counting on uploading that course and now can't find any option for doing so.  What are we missing??

You can still import and export Buzz courses.

To export:

  1. Open the course in the Curriculum Map.
  2. Select the Launch Syllabus toolbar button.
  3. Select Course Settings.
  4. Select Export Course.

To import (admin-only, for now):

  1. Open the Domain tool.
  2. Select Launch the "Teach a Course" wizard.
  3. Select Import Course.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. We do have plane for streamlining this process a little better.

Thanks.

What format do the files need to be in?

The "Teach a Course" wizard is in BrainHoney. You access it from https://{your-domain}.brainhoney.com.

Common Cartridge 1.0 courses is the currently preferred import format.

Hey Brad - as a follow up, now that the Buzz editor is fully functional, instead of using Launch Syllabus and linking back to Brain Honey, can you repost with the new steps?

If the option doesn't exist in Buzz and I export the course from BH will it work if I import them back in Buzz in the future?

Hey Sarah:

Importing a course has to still be done through BrainHoney. However, the import/export tools are always anticipated to support both BrainHoney or Buzz packages. So, to answer your question, yes.

Hi Brad - Is it possible to add the common catridge zip file to an existing course?

In other words, if I create a course shell with a module, can I then use ftp to load the zip file and open it where the course files load?

Lyn, yes, through BrainHoney. This functionality does not exist in Buzz.

When in the Syllabus tool for a Course, just as adding any content, you will see an option to import a Common Cartridge file.

Hello Brad,

Back in January 2016 in the thread above, I read that we are able to export a course in Buzz. However, when I follow the steps outlined above, I am not able to find an export button in course settings. Is that still possible?

Hey Kyle:

Yes, the option to export a course (while limited) did exist in Buzz because we were surfacing some BrainHoney tools within the Buzz interface. Since then, we have removed all BrainHoney dependencies/tools from Buzz. Until this functionality fully exists in Buzz, users are encouraged to use BrainHoney to export the courses. To do so:

  1. Go to your domain in BrainHoney. For example, if your Buzz URL is myschool.agilixbuzz.com, your BrainHoney URL would be myschool.brainhoney.com.
  2. Select the course to open.
  3. Select the Syllabus tool.
  4. Select "Course Settings".
  5. Select "Export Course".

Brad, I'm looking for an update on this topic. When do you anticipate functionality fully in Buzz? I have a course package that can be imported in Brainhoney but gives an error in Buzz.

Hey Hieu:

This functionality to import has been completed in Buzz. See How do I import Common Cartridge (IMS and SCORM) content?

If you are experiencing an error while importing into Buzz, please create a ticket with the Agilix Support team for us to further investigate.
