Buzz: Product Feedback

Alerts needed when assigning points over the amount possible (from Mike Depta)

Feature idea (LEVEL 1)
Jeremy Walker

Mike Depta pointed out that Buzz is not doing something that BrainHoney could do.

When a teacher puts in scores that results in a student getting over 100% in BrainHoney, like this:

They get an alert like this:

When the teacher does something like this in Buzz:

No alert comes up:

Personally, I would like to see both systems changed to throw an alert any time a teacher assigns points for an individual item that are more than what that item is worth.  The current BH approach only helps catch issues where the overall score ended up being over the total amount possible.  So, if a teacher made an error grading an essay question, giving it 10 points instead of 5, but the student missed 6 other points on the test, no alert would pop up.  If we were able to incorporate my feature request, the teacher would need to confirm the over-assignment of points (which might be intentional in some case uses--trying to give extra credit for exceptional answers for example) and be more certain that the overall score was then correct.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for considering this request.

A good way to handle this is to add a field to the grade book section labeled "bonus" or "Max Score". If I gave a 100 point test with a 4 point extra credit question I could make it worth 100 points and 4 in the bonus field so the alert would only come up if I typed in a score over 104. Alternately, using the max score option the test could be worth 100 with a max score of 104 so again, the alert would only appear if I typed in a score over that amount.

This is a feature I would really like to see. This would save a lot of headaches from an accidental keystroke.
