Hello!
We use the Digital Library to link content into our courses from a generic "resource" course. When we create an assignment or assessment, we give it the same Grading Category name as in the course we will be linking into. However, when we complete the linking, the Grading Category doesn't hold. And, it seems unpredictable as to which Grading Category in the course the item will be assigned. Example: I have a course with categories Practice Quizzes, Assessments and Segment Exams. When I linked an item from the Digital Library with Grading Category Assessments, it ended up in Practice Quizzes when linked. Is this expected behavior? Thanks for any help you can provide!
Adding activities using the Digital Library doesn't bring in course-level settings, including Grading Categories. As a result, activities are placed in the first available Grading Category in the new course.
If you're working with just a few activities, you may find it best to manually set the Grading Category once the activity is linked in the new course. However, for many activities, you may want to consider creating a course copy from a template course that already has the desired Grading Categories defined. This way, you can maintain the Grading Category alignment while customizing the content to suit your needs.
In addition to manually setting the Grading Category for each activity and using a course copy from a template course, you may find it easiest to bulk edit the Grading Categories! Once the activities have been added to the course, you can select the "Activity List" tab from the Course Editor, check the checkboxes for the activities you want to edit, and then select the Bulk Edit pencil icon in the toolbar. From there, you can set the desired Grading Category for all the previously selected activities. I recommend checking out our "How do I make changes to multiple activities at once (Bulk Edit)?" article for some great visual steps.
