Export Course Objectives from old course to new

Tabatha Kilgore
We are currently in the process of remastering some of our educational courses, and we've encountered a situation where some of the courses have distinct objectives. In order to streamline the process and avoid having to recreate the objectives and align them with the respective formative assessments, we are exploring the possibility of duplicating or exporting the existing objectives and importing them into the new courses that share the same modules. If we were to leverage the API for this purpose, could you kindly provide guidance on the most efficient approach to accomplish this task? Your expertise and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Tabatha,

Unfortunately, there isn't an API command to export objectives to another course. We recommend adding the objectives to the course and aligning them to activities, as that is the best and safest solution. You can import your course objectives through a CSV file import. Here is the link to our article that provides detailed instructions on how to do so: How do I batch import data using tab-delimited and comma-separated files?

If you make those edits to a parent course, the derivatives will inherit them, reducing the workload. Alternatively, if you edit a static or derivative child, the course objectives are referenced, and you can edit the ones you don't want to keep.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know.
