Google Doc Upload

Good afternoon,

I am writing to inquire about the uploading of Google Docs to the courses in Buzz.

An adviser working with a student called and inquired about uploading Google Docs.  I advised them to save the file as a Word Document and then upload.

They advised me that an error message came up talking about a Google Doc button.  Please see attached screenshot.

Is this a feature that can be integrated into our LMS?

If he is uploading a Google Doc, converted to a Word file, then he should use the "choose file" option rather than "Choose Google Document"

The "Choose Google Doc" button allows the student to choose a Google Doc from their Google Drive, but this doesn't sound like the workflow you are asking for.

In our courses, we do not see that button...is that something we can have added to our interface?

Hey Heather, I just reviewed the activity and it does have the "Choose File" option available to me. What device are you using?

Right, we have the choose file option, but with the influx in Chrome Book usage, the "Choose Google Doc" button you show above would be helpful, too.

I have not seen that as an option in our courses...

I just reread the error message and understand what is occurring. So, if you are using a Chromebook and attempt to upload a "local file" which is in fact a Google Drive file, this error will be displayed. Currently, to enable the option to select Google Drive files an admin needs to follow the instructions found here: How do I integrate Buzz and Google Drive?

Good afternoon,

We would like to explore this option however, we do not want to lose any of our current configurations, and have read some feeds that the integration has reversed other integrations done already in the domain.  How can we ensure that does not happen?

You will not use any of your existing configurations if you add your Google Client ID. There was a bug (a year ago?) that could have caused this to happen, but has since been fixed.

Thanks Brad.

Now we are a large organization that services various School Districts throughout New York State.

Would we be able to integrate Google Drive, still?

So, yes, you would be able to. However, it may be more work than you would want as you have to put the URL for each school in your Google API Project.

A couple of weeks ago we announced that we would be making some changes to our Google Drive integration that would make it very much easier for administrators like you. As of now, the administrator has to setup a Google API Project and enable it for your domains. In the future, it will be on for everyone with no setup necessary.

If possible, I would recommend waiting until we launched the new integration. It would reduce your need to do anything and would work better. We do not know the exact date that it will be released because it is pending Google review, but could be as soon as a couple more weeks.
