How do I create surveys in Dawn?

Surveys allow authors to create a series of choice, short answer, and/or essay questions in one instruction.

To create a survey:  

  1. Open the desired catalog entry from Administration > Catalog and select the section you want to add the survey to.
  2. Click Add instruction and choose Survey.
  1. Give your survey a Title.
  2. Provide the Expected duration for the Interaction to inform Effort data.
  3. Click Add question and choose the type you want (Choice or Free response).

Choice questions

To create a Choice question:

  1. Provide the Title and Mastery award.
  2. Include the question and any other information learners need in the Body.
  3. Provide answer options in the Choices fields. You can easily add or delete questions.

Choice questions are displayed with radio buttons, and learners can choose only one.

Free response: Short answer

To create a Free response: Short answer question:

  1. Provide the Title and Mastery award.
  2. Include the question and any other information learners need in the Body.
  3. Select Short answer in the Response type dropdown.

Learners are able to provide their answer on a single line. If you believe learners will need more space, create a Free response: Essay question.

Free response: Essay

To create a Free response: Essay question:

  1. Provide the Title and Mastery award.
  2. Include the question and any other information learners need in the Body.
  3. Select Essay in the Response type dropdown.

Learners are able to provide their answer in a field that extends as they add content.

Review survey responses

You can review learner's survey responses in Administration > Learners screen by selecting the learner, catalog entry, and survey.
