Release Notes (2018-02-01; v2.0.139 & v3.0.37)

A round-up of all improvements and changes to the Buzz platform in versions v2.0.139 and v3.0.37, available on February 1, 2018.

Fixed issues

In this release, we:

  • Fixed an issue where, in certain circumstances, screen readers would not read the top-level navigation button labels. We added labeling to correct those cases. Note: in some cases, the screen reader will read both the button label and the button title (tooltip text, which is the same text as the button label), which is expected.
  • Updated Buzz functionality to prevent users from closing prompt and alert dialogs by clicking on the backdrop.
  • Fixed an issue where selections made in the Gradebook > Visible columns editor would remain selected (but not saved) if the user closed it using the X in the corner and reopened it.
  • Fixed an issue where Minutes Spent were not displayed in the Activity Grader and Grades footers, even though they were selected to display.

New Buzz UI

During the summer of 2017, we released a new Buzz UI, giving you the same features and functionality with a cleaner, simpler user experience!

The release notes in this section pertain only to those using the new Buzz UI.

New Buzz UI updates

In this release, we:

  • Updated the People tool to better reflect the new Buzz UI.
  • Updated the assessment editor to allow users to link to a question that is already linked from a different source.
  • Added a Grade link to discussion boards that opens a grading modal from the Activities tool for teachers.
  • Fixed an issue where excused items with no previous grade were not included in a student's Activity Stream.

New Buzz UI fixed issues

In this release, we:

  • Fixed an issue where activities in the choice activities chooser (Activities tool) would not be correctly filtered by the Groups Filter.
  • Fixed an issue where long entries in the activity stream were causing undesirable scrolling behavior.
  • Updated Scientific Calculator display to use all lowercase letters.
  • Updated the Editor to display a message informing Admins when they don't have editing rights to a course if they try to navigate there.
  • Fixed a problem where the Admin's Edit Course dialog would not save the "empty/cleared" School Year setting when you cleared the School year by choosing "Empty" in the School-year selector.
  • Fixed an issue where the folder and period dropdowns in the Clipboard would not work as expected if there was no period in the selected course that matches the current grading period.
  • Updated the way questions are linked in an assessment to allow users to link either to individual questions or an entire assessment, even when selecting all questions in an assessment.
  • Fixed a problem where the Create Course dialog would not save the "empty/cleared" School Year setting when you cleared the School year by choosing "Empty" in the School-year selector.
  • Updated Buzz functionality to prevent users from closing prompt and alert dialogs by clicking on the backdrop.
  • Added a warning to the course Editor and My Library Community pages that notifies the author if a course is nearing, or has exceeded, the item limit (5,000) for a course.
  • Fixed an issue where users were unable to edit and save certain courses without changing the Attempt Limit field.
  • Added email validation to the create user screen of the People > Manage enrollments page.
  • Fixed an issue where Course Settings indicating that visual grade indicators should be used in addition to color indicators were not being followed in the People and Gradebook tools.
  • Fixed an issue where selections made in the Gradebook > Visible columns editor would remain selected (but not saved) if the user closed it using the X in the corner and reopened it.
  • Fixed an issue where Minutes Spent were not displayed in the Activity Grader and Grades footers, even though they were selected to display.
  • Fixed an issue where using IDs to search with QuickNav was not returning results.
  • Fixed an issue where excused items with no previous grade were not included in a student's Activity Stream.

APIs

  • GetActiveUserCount: Fixed an issue that may have caused some counts to not be fully reported for specific days of the year.
  • GetUserActivityStream: A new API to retrieve a student or teacher activity stream.
  • GetItem: A new attribute, embedmaster, to return the immediate master's data along with the current course's item. Allows for comparing if there are any differences between the current course or the master course for the item.
  • ListEnrollments: A new query filter, /status, to limit the returned results to a specific status.
  • Various security improvements.
