Beta feature: The Inbox is a beta feature and subject to change. If you encounter issues or have questions, please contact your administrator or Agilix support.

The Inbox appears only if it has been enabled in your domain.

Buzz's Inbox tools make it easy for students and teachers to communicate right in Buzz. You can open your Inbox by clicking the icon in your toolbar or from the Main menu.

When you have a new message in your Inbox, a badge notification appears on the toolbar Inbox icon.

Manage your Inbox

You can manage your Inbox with the following tools:

  1. Filter by course lets you choose to see messages from All courses or only those from a specific course.
  2. The Folders dropdown lets you review message threads in the following locations:
    • Inbox displays all threads with messages you've received.
    • Sent displays threads with messages you've sent.
    • Starred displays only the threads you have starred.
    • Unread displays only threads with messages you haven't seen in them.
    • Archive displays your archived threads.
    • Trash displays messages that you have deleted.
  3. The Filter by recipient tool lets you choose to see only messages with specific students or teachers. This filter reflects the chosen Folder or course above.
  4. Use the Archive, Mark read/unread, and Star/Un-star hover tools to manage your threads.
  5. You can bulk Archive, Mark read/unread, and Star/Un-star threads by checking the box next to a thread and using the more menu above the Folder field.
    • Archive removes a message thread from your other folders, but does not delete the thread.
  6. Refresh the screen to see if new messages have been delivered while using the Inbox.

Message thread header

The message thread header includes:

  1. Details about the messages (Subject, Course, and Recipients).
    • If the thread was created in the Grade editor by you or in Grade details by a student, a direct link to Open grader is included in the Subject line, so you can view the message with the activity and grading details.
    • If the message was sent from the New message tool in an activity, a direct link to the activity is included.
  2. A Reply button for the thread.
  3. A More menu that allows you to:

Create a New message and reply to messages

To create a new message:

  1. Click the new message (paper airplane) button.
  1. Add recipients to the thread in the To field. Messages are organized by course, so if you choose recipients from two different courses, separate messages are created for each course.
  2. Create a Subject that will be displayed in the message header.
  3. Compose your message.
  4. Attach any files.
  5. When sending to multiple recipients, use the Send as a group message (makes recipients and replies visible to everyone) checkbox to determine the type of thread you want to start:
    • When disabled: All recipients receive the message as though it were sent only to them and can reply only to the sender. This creates an individual message for each recipient in your Sent folder.
    • When enabled: Recipients can see who else received the message and their replies are seen by all other recipients.
  6. Send.

After sending a message, you can review it by opening your Sent folder. You can edit or delete sent messages and delete message threads.

You can Reply to messages by clicking Reply under the last message sent in a thread or clicking the Reply icon in the thread header.

Read/unread status

Read/unread status allows teachers to see whether recipients have seen their messages. To view it, open the More menu in the message thread header and click Read/unread status.

  1. The Status column shows either:
    • Read, meaning the recipient has seen all of the messages in the thread.
    • Unread, meaning that the recipient has at least one unread message in the thread.
  2. The Last viewed column shows the last time the recipient viewed the thread, so you can identify the last message they saw.

Add recipients

Add recipients allows teachers to add people to the thread. To add recipients, open the More menu in the message thread header and click Add recipients.

When recipients are added, they automatically see all of the messages in the thread.

Edit sent messages

Teachers are allowed to edit their own sent messages. Students are not allowed to edit messages.

To edit you own sent messages:

  1. Hover over the sent message anywhere it appears and click the Edit icon that appears.
  1. Make edits in the rich text editor that opens.
  2. Click Save.

The message remains in the thread with edits added. An (edited) indicator appears above the message, and any user can hover over it to see when the edit was made.

Delete any sent message

Teachers and administrators are allowed to delete a message sent by anyone. Students are not allowed to delete messages.

To delete a message sent by any user, hover over the message anywhere it appears and click the Delete icon that appears.

The deleted message is replaced for all recipients with text informing them that the Message has been removed.

You can restore the message for all recipients by hovering over the deleted message and clicking the Restore icon that appears.

Delete message threads

Teachers and administrators are allowed to delete message threads that are not created in the Grade editor or Grade details. Students are not allowed to delete message threads.

To delete a message thread for all recipients, click the More menu in the message thread header and click Delete.

You can view deleted threads in the Trash folder and restore it for everyone by opening the More menu and clicking Restore.

Submission and scoring threads cannot be deleted

Threads that are created in the Grade editor (Teachers) or Grade details (Students) cannot be deleted, so the Delete option does not appear in the More menu for these threads.

Teachers and administrators can delete individual messages from these threads.

Turn on email notifications for Inbox

You can enable Notifications, so you get an external email letting you know that you've received a message in your Inbox.
